Professional Expertise
Family Matters Counseling Group, PLLC consists of nursing and clinical staff with more than 10 years of experience servicing adults, families, couples, and children suffering from mental health issues, trauma and abuse, cognitive issues, addictions and dependency, behavioral deviancies, and personality disorders. We provide expert training to schools, nonprofit organizations, and police departments surrounding issues of mental health, addictions, and vulnerable populations. Our work with schools include proper identification and assessment to identify possible cognitive delays, source of conduct issues, and techniques to improve student behavior, academic functioning, and ways to better support student learning.

Psychological Consultant: Psychologists may be hired by attorneys to consult on a case “behind the scenes.” Examples include educating the attorney about a client’s mental illness, assisting in jury selection or cross-examination, or critiquing another psychologist’s evaluation report.
Expert Witness: A psychologist may be asked to testify in court as an expert.

Dr. Bates-Duford is a Board Member and proud supporter of Hopeline Inc., located in Wake County North Carolina that provides a confidential telephone service for people in crisis to call. HopeLine’s underlying premise is that “caring, non-judgmental listening and resource information” will “improve the overall well-being of people in the community.”
HopeLine focuses on active listening techniques to offer caring nonjudgmental listening to our callers. We do not give advice on the lines, but instead will offer referrals to other organizations using the United Way 211 program. Dr. Bates-Duford is also a proud Supporter of Black Nurses Rock NYC.
